When you look at history, so many, many generations had things like this. Wars, pandemics/plagues, poverty, social unrest…. How soon we have forgotten because of a few prosperous decades. The boy is young; hopefully his future will hold better things in store and on a personal note, I hope we have hit rock bottom. It may be a wake up call for major change….especially environmentally.

I am not by nature pessimistic. I have certainly in my almost 76 years on this earth seen enough horror and conversely, plenty of beauty. I wish I could say that I am optimistic about the future of my grandchildren … but I am not.

We have really screwed this world up and are leaving a legacy of global hatred, pollution, greed, poverty, disease, and despair. I see no hope for the immediate future, only more of the same.

“Some people may think they can imagine today just how horrific AGW outcomes will be each coming decade, but I am afraid people your age and those coming after are fated to actually live the experience — and it is going to be permanently worse than prior, relatively brief, historical episodes of hostile environment that prior hominids have endured. Most life on this planet will not survive it.

“When you are my age, in the 2050’s, you will be able to remember how much more pleasant Earth was to live on back in 2020, and you will find it difficult not to hate the people who had an opportunity from about 1990 through 2030 to take action that at least mitigated the disaster you find yourself doing your best to survive.

“Why didn’t they do what needed doing?” you’ll wonder. “And why did so many of them allow themselves to believe the climate change denier deliberate lies, told only so that rich people making enormous profit on carbon energy could keep making enormous profits, all while well aware of the future disaster they were causing?”

Good question, son. Especially when civilization collapses from environmental catastrophe, all that hoarded wealth vanishes into overheated air, and everybody is on equal (survival level, no wealth hierarchies) footing.

All influential civilizations have an end. The dinosaurs did it way better than us … and with those tiny arms, too!
