I’ll say, Montana Lady! Here in Aus, have such severe sprinkler bans in summer now, you’d cop a big fine for such innocent frivolity…ESPECIALLY in the middle of the day!
Earl back when this strip wad originally made, no one gave a crap about suing someone for a child being injured – all they cared about was their child was a live, and not being molested by some perv. Now a days, you’d have to worry about this litigation bull crap.
You are so right, Allan V. When I was about 4 years old, I ripped my shin open on an old sandbox in the next door neighbor’s back yard. My mother and the neighbor got me to the doctor who stitched me up. And that was the end of it. Today there would probably be a huge lawsuit for the negligence of the neighbor for leaving such a “dangerous” item where children could be hurt on it. It is sad that we seem to have become more interested in finding ways of making money than of maintaining community. No man is an island as the poet says but everyone seems to be trying to cut off their little piece of land and drift away on their own.
Like a kid magnet… We have plenty of water gun fights at my house. We think it’s better than the sprinkler: there’s no waiting in line, everyone has a super soaker, everyone gets wet, there’s lots of running and it works around the water restrictions. Plus they do all sorts of hide and seek maneuvers… keeps everyone going!
Our neighbourhood is like that now. We have a slide, next door has a basketball hoop (2 houses do) and water table. All houses have various sizes of bikes and scooters. The kids (15 or so, all ages 2-11) migrate and play and probably fight, and do what kids do. It’s excellent.
Water sprinklers, backyard swimming pools, fancy expensive swing sets with all kinds of “extras” besides just swings . . . you name it. If it’s fun and you’ve got it, every kid in the neighborhood will be there using it whether you want them to or not!
I broke my head on a basement window playing “follow the leader” and noone would dream of suing. On the other hand, when my hand was injured at Riverview, I wanted to sue (and I was only 13) but my parents would not. I still have a really ugly right hand.
