Not always. I had a beater that had pretty new tires on it. When I took it to the junk yard to get rid of for scrap metal, I had to pay THEM to take it. $35.00, to take my junker. It was a AMC Rambler station wagon. 69 I think. Hated that pile of junk, but it was given to me after my car was totaled after being rear ended by a speeding driver in zero visibility fog.

With a twenty year old vehicle I figure a few hundred dollars every now and then is still a lot cheaper than buying a new one.

My tires were worth more than my car when I traded it in. Brand new Chevy Cavalier, 4 on on the floor. Best car I ever had.

The dealership offered me $250 for my Volvo when I bought a new car, I’d just put in new brakes and battery that cost me three times that much!
