How do you get 2 parties to work together in a mutually exclusive, winner-take-all, opposing party system when the parties have two entirely different goals?
Our governor has just announced that starting July 1, everyone will be required to wear a face mask if in public. I’m looking forward to a lot of humor deriving from the self-entitled asshats who think their right to do whatever the hell they please is far more important than how their behavior affects the rest of us.
And I’m starting to order even food and clothing online. Sorry local merchants, it’s just gotten too dangerous out there.
Just like many Republicans refuse to believe in science because Democrats believe in science, Republicans refuse to advocate for public safety because the Democrats do.
Let’s see: there are warning labels on tobacco products, seat belt laws, speed limits, motorcycle helmet requirements, baby/toddler seat requirements in cars, laws protecting air and water quality…nope, can’t possibly require people to wear masks to protect fellow citizens in the name of public safety.
GOP is FINALLY starting to encourage the use of masks because of the surge of infections caused by Trump’s insistence that the economy re-open without proper precautions, including wanting to pack churches that appealed to his base. Trump’s refusal to wear a mask turned into his followers misguided call for “freedom”. What is really disgusting is that McConnell calls wearing a mask “altruism” rather than simple common (at least it should be) decency. The definition “selfless concern for the well-being of others” is quite a stretch. If you truly believe wearing a mask is altruism, make sure that you profusely thank any medical professionals that always wore masks for their selflessness. Plus don’t forget those that have helped all of us survive during the pandemic – restaurant workers, the people who will deliver to your home, grocery store personnel – many of these are paid the ridiculously low minimum wage.
I’ve never been a fan of Any of the political parties, and I’ve lived long enough to see the Democrats and Republicans switch sides on most things, but the last few years have seen the GOP turn into something unrecognizable. And no, it’s not just Trump and his toadies. He’s basically a pathetic loser with delusions of grandeur. It’s also his manipulators like Bannon, Miller, McConnell as examples. Even Pence to a certain degree, he seems to fill a dual role. The saddest part is that Any party would end up “earning” the message in this cartoon.
This tweet includes the 1905 Supreme Court ruling that gives the Federal Government the right to impose restrictions on the public in times of plaques, pandemics included. It would make a great T shirt.
Republicans take an oath of office just like everyone else. There would be no problem if everyone was faithful to their oath regardless of differences of opinion. No sane person can accept Trump’s response to the bounty on US soldiers as fidelity to the oath of office he took. Lies, denials, distractions, shifting blame? Why does Trump keep putting Russia first?
Quite frankly, I don’t care if anyone else does or does not wear a mask. I wear one as a decision I’ve made based on the evidence and the science. All I ask is that, masked or not, at least keep your distance from me as I am keeping mine from yours. I don’t know you, you don’t know me, so there’s no need to infringe on my personal social-distancing space.
This article was an eye opener. For those of you who are anti-mask please read this article. And be considerate of those around you. Wear a mask. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/07/01/coronavirus-autopsies-findings/

It’s probably not important right now, but which ear did Vincent Van Gogh cut off? Did he die of the flu? I’m asking for a President.

Private profits or public safety, we get to choose, but not until November. The Republicans have made their position clear.

RWNJ refusal to do even the least bit for the public weal inevitably will result in their strident insistence on being allowed to vote by mail.

Sad when even relatively cheap and easy methods that can help save lives are bashed due to politics…
