Ooh, are we building up to a tornado? Not that I’d like that you were ever in danger, but I do have a thing for tornadoes. No, I wouldn’t go outside to watch one. But I love tornado movies.
As a weather buff, I agree but I also disagree with Amanda. Yes, you can have some stormy skies that do look Tornado-y And as a local resident, you do become familiar with the weather patterns of where you live And can sometimes get a jump on the weatherman. However in your friends defense the weather people have become pretty decent at warning for tornadoes. (Sorry I took this way more seriously than it should have but the weather geek came out)
Somebody has to worry about these things. In my family, it is me. Over the top?? Maybe a little, but that tornado or whatever never hit our house. Who knows what would have happened it I hadn’t worried about it!!!
As a child growing up in a suburb of Chicago, I was also terrified of tornados. One actually barely missed us once, jumping over our street and hitting our doctor’s house just down the block. My bedroom was on the 2nd floor! I spent many a summer day/evening/night camped out in our basement (thank God we had one). I have moved to Tucson, Arizona where we only have to worry about fires! Hahahahahaha!
A few years back, a tornado whipped up Woodhaven Blvd in Queens New York. My sister was on a city bus and saw the tornado barreling toward them! She said she could still remember the screams as the tornado took a wild left, about 100 feet from the bus, taking out a tree and then ripping through a graveyard.
Picky point, I know, but my brain is frozen on the fact that you mention “Danny” in panel 2, but Danny doesn’t seem to be around. Am I missing something?
I grew up in the Midwest, and tornadoes featured in my nightmares though we never saw a tornado. But what really terrifies me is the idea of an earthquake – the earth swallowing you up?? I love the west coast but I’d never move there (but oh, places like Portland and Seattle and San Fran are so cool!) Stupid earthquake danger.
