Traitors they are not. We tend to absorb the traits of the society we currently live in and times change those traits making it difficult to access the past using today’s society.
Considering that Gutzon Borglum was happy to align himself with the Ku Klux Klan in order to carve Stone Mountain (about which he said: “I saw the thing I had been dreaming of all my life”), which was not only intended as a shrine to the KKK, but which included an altar designed by Borglum for their 1915 revival, let alone the fact that he carved the Mt. Rushmore memorial despite objections of the Sioux to whom it was holy land, why shouldn’t it be triggering?
from American Experience: The insult of Rushmore to some Sioux is at least three-fold:1. It was built on land the government took from them.2. The Black Hills in particular are considered sacred ground.3.The monument celebrates the European settlers who killed so many Native Americans and appropriated their land.
CAPTION: Look George, that’s John Bolton third from the left ! President Trump is really going to be upset now. Image if Joe Biden picks “Pocahontas” Warren for his Vice President and then wins the election by a landslide.
I personally believe the Mt Rushmore is a monument worth protecting and an important part of American history. Generic statues in city parks on the other hand are just chunks of metal that can be replaced at any time, and aren’t overly important.
Mt Rushmore, Statue of Liberty – Keep & protect
City park statues – Replace if they are no longer relevant
If we only did a better job with teaching US history without all the whitewashing of parts that make the elitist society look like the corrupt, criminal, immoral, hypocritical bigots they were; then this would be fine. Teach history honestly and not how AG Barr puts it “the winner rewrites history”.
Trigger….another snowflake term. It would all be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic. (If you are unsure, ask the rest of the world what they think of the USA now…)

Might be upsetting to the tribes whose land was taken despite treaty agreements.

Or go check out the other SD monument, the Crazy Horse Memorial, in progress.

How many people go to Mt. Rushmore but completely ignore Devil’s Tower only some two hours away? Talk about a natural wonder.

Of course, too many “conservatives” don’t need a statue to be triggered – all they need to see is a minority person walking around…
