I have an insectarium that consists of a disk of Douglas Fir sandwiched between disks of plexiglass. It is presently inhabited by a couple of dozen Pacific Dampwood Termites. The wood is both their home and their food. So I see them eating wood chips all the time.

Not cannibalism. We are creatures of flesh and blood, and we eat the flesh of other animals. So why wouldn’t beings made of wood eat wood chips?
