Once talked to a guy who fished along the Intracoastal in Florida before it was developed. He and his buddy once hooked a shark, fought it for several hours. They finally got it up to the boat but cut it loose when it was nearly as long as their 16 foot boat.

This actually happened to my dad. He and a buddy were in a rowboat fishing in the Mississippi – dad at one end, buddy at other. Dad hooked a Sturgeon and his buddy saw the tail swish, and said… “we’re…” (they cut the line and let it go)

Actually, a big gun would help at the moment.

I hope he practices catch and release…
