Right or left, whatever legislation we get it’s either so badly watered down by everyone wanting to leave his finger print on it that we wind up with s#@t or a piece of junk rammed through by an overwhelming majority in an “I’ll show you” moment.
Note to both side: YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO MAKE THINGS BETTER. If you do, the word poltician might just start to carry a little respect for a change.
But here’s an idea for health care. Every politician who opposes government involved in health care should have his or her government paid health care revoked. Just take away their insurance. They’re all rich enough to afford their own, anyway, so why should we foot the bill?
Saw an interview with one of the freshman congressmen who did just that. One interesting thing he said - in raw numbers the govt plan cost about the same as the private plans, but just like in the private sector the difference was in how much the “employer” covered for the “employee”
It’s not doctors that’s the problem, it’s lawyers. Limit liability and change torte law. No other country in the world permits unlimited liability and malpractice.
Change the laws and millions would be eligible for private insurance and the ones who aren’t can be covered by the government.
Last industrialized country in the world with no universal care. It’s just shameful….
If you want to make sure that a bureaucrat stay between you and your doctor, but all means- keep dealing with a private insurer.
I’d rather have my mailman telling me what treatment I can and cannot have, than someone who is guaranteed a bonus for denying me treatment.
Trial lawyers don’t award their clients multi-million dollar judgments, juries do.
Trial lawyers can negotiate multi-million dollar settlements for their clients, and the nature of a settlement is such that it’s agreed to by both sides.
Insurers by and large are happy to shell out the occasional large settlement when litigation is brought, because it costs them less than actually paying the claims of the people they insure.
Still one of the funniest things was when one of the GOP Freshmen who campaigned against Healthcare came in to orientation and was told he wouldn’t get his shiny Gov’t healthcare for ~30 days and he was like “WTF am I supposed to do without healthcare for 30 days.”
It ain’t the lawyers - here in Texas, we’ve had “tort reform” for years. Hasn’t lowered medical costs one iota. Yet another lie from the Republican clowns who run this state.
the main point of the cartoon isn’t addressed in the above comments. President Obama offered the Republican governors the option of making their own provisions/suggestions to create a better healthcare reform plan and they DON’T HAVE ANY! They prefer to go back to repeal the whole thing and go back to trusting the insurance companies to do the right thing (because it’s worked so well in the past!).
^Tom, you left out one piece: trusting the insurance companies to give them nice sacks of campaign funds. As they have in the past, and can now do legally…
“Trial lawyers don’t award their clients multi-million dollar judgments, juries do.”
But juries aren’t contributing to the Democratic party. That’s why the cons aren’t going after them. Just think about the groups that fall into their cross hairs (ACORN for example) and what they do to the Democratic Party.
Well, there are plenty of people on both sides of the aisle who’d gladly “kill all the lawyers”, and there’s also no shortage of trial lawyers who vote Republican. (How do you think we end up with Republican judges?)
