Yep, the second panel sounds just like a typical 6 (?) year old kid would speak. My imaginary friend always “spectralized” (my spell check didn’t even find that word) when my parents yelled at me.

spectralized = “Of or resembling a specter; ghostly.”

I’m not surprised, Calvin.

Calvin, it wouldn’t be your good side I’d worry about throttling you. You have a long list of enemies (real or potential, two of them your parents) and not one real friend. You can’t even beat your imaginary tiger.

Never mind “how existential can you get?”, Hobbes, How about “how egocentric can you get?”

Doing the homework himself is not so interesting! It’s much more funny together with Hobbes!

Through all this Hobbes will stick by his Calvin. I think I will too.

Mrs. Wormwood is about to wake up from her dream.

I wonder if Mom will miss Good Calvin?

If you had done your homework, Calvin, you’d see things the way they really are!

Calvin’s vocabulary is turning too scientific now! The spectra is used for the collection of different colors of light or any other object. Conversion of good Calvin into light photons seems to be too harsh. Use of Einstein’s theory for exterminating good Calvin does not go down well. Can we not have the good Calvin and bad ,oops, the original Calvin Mr BW??

Too much for me to handle so early in the morning…..LOL…i’m going to miss good Calvin, just a little!

Without the original Calvin, there just ain’t no comic strip.

Calvin is given to hyperbole. I honestly believe you could base a child psychology course on this comic strip alone.

Calvin you proved your point. Now back to being in trouble for not doing your homework. Back to normal. Sigh

The world will be able to breath a sigh of relief knowing that “Normal” Calvin is back. Not doing his homework or household chores, tormenting Susie, etc.

That final statement of Calvin’s doesn’t bode well for his parents.

Hyperbole is a great humor technique. That’s why I love this strip so much; it shows us what happens when we take our peeves to the extreme.

I wonder how many children Watterson raised, and was one or more of them a Calvin? Could we be seeing the result of his own childhood?

Sounds like the psychology papers that analyze Shakespearean characters–because the motivations, etc. are all so clearly drawn and lifelike–more or less.

I have to do my homework, too, but I’m like Calvin. You could do it yourself (Yeah, right!) or you could get some goody two shoes to do it for you.

Calvin needs to put Hobbes in Calvin’s invention so the Tiger will be able to do Calvin’s homework. That should be good for some laughs….

Homework. Why wait to the very last minute, dreading all evening long at having to do it until you finally do do it … when you could just do it as soon as you get home from school, then have all evening long to forget about it and have fun doing whatever it is you really want to do instead? That’s what I did when I was in school.

This arc reminds of a Native American legend.

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, ‘My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?’

Personality, eh? Something just dawned on me. The ethicator must’ve dug out Calvin’s Jungian Self, whereas what we see in him normally is his massive Jungian Ego shining through whatever Persona mask he puts one at the moment. No wonder his “good side” went spectral.

Calvin, you’re going to have real problems coming to terms with your Self when you get older.

That’s easy

Boy that’s deep. An idea is easier to ignore than an imagined physicality of it. Of course it is, because you don’t have to concentrate on the ethereal personification to make it exist, Calvin!
