Is this a metaphor for something? I don’t get it.

Social distancing poker: everyone gets a deck and deals to themselves (honour system, mind you). Could be an interesting game. Equal odds all around the table.

Why not? It can’t be any more boring than any other shut-in game!

I don’t play poker, but understand there are places to play online. There must be a way for two players in the same house to sign on to the same site and play each other that way.

I have been playing a lot of online chess, anyway. Both local chess clubs, one meeting in the food court of a mall, the other in a local library, are closed for the duration.

They’re in the same household. Why do they need to stay apart?

All by analogy. The joke is in the last frame: Social distancing is a new game, and the rules to “win” by it are still being worked out.

With this pandemic, you can’t win, you can’t break even, and you can’t walk out of the game.
