Sometime in Stephen King’s books, the mother is a monster.
Tell me another story, monster under the bed.
Well, could you pretend to be a monster and jump out of the closet?
And then he had the thought, “I can create one!”
No monsters…. not until university where he started dropping acid. THEN came the monsters! And all of his supernatural ideas.:)

If there was a monster under my bed, I would want it to be Mike or Sully.
Now he’s in Misery.
I’d be more concerned if rats were in my closet!
