1.39 is such an odd number to chose to give yourself for struggling with each math problem. she didn’t come up with the wrong answer…the calculator did. time to get a new one.
well… according to my calculator she had difficulty 4.482014388489209 times… and I actually tried to do this one in my head at first but that many decimal places just didn’t fit.
As a math teacher who loves to play with numbers, it appears her point is that her struggles with math are a nonzero quantity that is still less than one. The ratio here is 1.39:0.0623, which reduces to approximately 22.3:1. It so happens that 70/π = 22.2816920329… and while I still have no idea why she chose this amount, I must kindly remind Gracie not to round her intermediate figures too hastily, as the more accurate answer should have been 6.24 cents.

You can’t even divide that.

Hmmm! She used a calculator!

4.48? Did she struggle with half a problem?

Think there was a struggle with this one. The one single digit that would produce a 3 is 7. Just saying

There is a million dollar prize waiting for the person who proves (or disproves) the Riemann Hypothesis. Get to work, kiddo.

And yet, she used a calculator to do arithmetic?

Can you imagine how much Baldo would’ve made? He’d have his car on the road by now.

This comic makes no sense. It’s either $0 or $1.39 or multiples of $1.39.

Nice to see I’m not the only one to check her math.

Make that $8.34. She accounted for 4.48 times. Since she got that wrong we can add another problem bring it up to 6×.

If she’s that smart, why does she need a calculator to figure it out?

I suppose she could struggle on 1 part of a 22 part problem, which would be 1.39/22 = 6.32 cents
