I’m starting to lose faith in Monty’s abilities, although he seems to have put his clothes on correctly without written instructions.

Those furniture assembly services charge double if they have to disassemble the furniture first…

I’m my local Ikea’s approved assembly technicians list… They even gave me a left-handed Allen-key…

I build mine from scratch and don’t understand what the difficulty of a kit is. I use the pictures when I do a kit. As to assemblers. I saw those chrome wire shelves on Amazon for $40, with assembly $168!!! They must send them by limo or private plane or something.

IKEA instructions are pretty good even without added text. However, I’ve yet to find a sofa there that is not already assembled (other than the cushions.). They’ve moved away from most of the DIY aspects in that one area.

IKEA is only a good deal if you put it together yourself. If you are paying somebody else to do it, you might as well just go to a regular furniture store. I see the folks advertising IKEA assembly and I scratch my head. Now, for wall-mounting stuff, I might recommend paying somebody! About 2 years ago, my wife ordered – online – a storage cabinet for her office. It arrived and had 132 pieces; I kid you not. I told her I’ gladly package it back up and take it to UPS as a return; and I did.

I put a shelf together in about a half hour with my mom, these things are pretty idiot proof…

I’m sure he had words about the instructions.

Rule of thumb: if the result looks wrong, it is wrong. Figure it out.

Monty overestimates his DIY skill set (no surprise). He should have listened to Dehlia! Don’t be stubborn and stupid, Monty! Get help. It is a well-known belief that no one can understand IKEA instructions….

There is nothing wrong with this exciting example of Escherian Mid 20th Century Modern (Circa 1954) furniture.

    Fake News: Ü is not a Swedish letter, it’s German. IKEA would use Å, Ä, Ö or maybe Norwegian Æ Ø Å.
