Maybe that should be a Bear wearing the mask. The Bull Market may be dead, as the Obama effect should have worn off by now.

This is the third cartoon I’ve seen today with the bull in a mask theme.

Meanwhile, over at Fox Business, they’re blaming the dow plunge on Bernie’s NV win:

If one of those border nations with a poor economy has a refugee camp or two fall prey to the corona virus, what will be the state of their economy after responding?

Will that have any effect on the market?

The map of the corona virus is mostly in the northern hemisphere. None so far in black Africa and central an south America are so far clean.

Trump: What is this coronavirus thing? Never heard of it. Must be fake news. The stock market is tanking because I’m out of the country, Bernie won NV and Obama. I though India was in Indiana. Who knew it was so far away. Anyway, these foreigners really love me. I think I’ll have a hamberder for dinner.

There are 2 sad things concerning the coronavirus; 1. I think the news about it runs towards the hysterical – yes there have been thousands of deaths, but not hundreds of thousands. The Spanish Flu @ the turn of the 20th century killed millions globally, and considering the communication technology of the time, was very likely an undercount.

What makes the coronavirus “hysteria” bad is that if it doesn’t kill at least hundreds of thousands of people, people will see the concern over the disease to be a case of “the boy that cried wolf”. Then when the next virus comes along that is something like the Spanish Flu, warnings will be ignored.

And 2. The problem that bothers me most is the concern about the economy. People’s lives and health is at stake. I think worrying about the capitalist economy at all is perverted. Getting more green paper to enrich oneself isn’t what life’s about.

Our morals and the value we place on life has become just another commodity, to be assigned to its place in the capitalist materialistic hierarchy that determines the value of everything. In the “free markets” human life, health, and altruistic morals are far down the list.

And people wonder why we have Trump as our president.

Uh it is Wall Street getting sick, as the last two days combined make the worst two day loss in the history of the market.(Assume that even includes ‘29? At least on percentage loss?

These must be interesting times to be an actuary for an insurance company. How much will we have to pay out for homes destroyed by wildfires and hurricanes? How much for people killed prematurely by coronavirus? How much for traffic crashes involving self-driving cars? Will the courts insist on interviewing the Big Guy when we claim something was an act of God?
