It dawned on me as I was watching Alan Dershowitz burn his Constitutional reputation at the alter of Trump; Donald trump is like a Black Hole, if you let yourself get too close he will suck you in and not let you escape the clutches of his gravitational hold. There is a long list of people who have learned this the hard way.
Wow! That would be wonderful and amazing if 30 Republicans decided to stay home. In some ways it would ALMOST be a better end than just a regular vote with a supermajority.
I’ve wondered about that clause in the Constitution, too. Sure seems like could mean either 2/3 of the members present in the session, or 2/3 of the compliment of the Senate. Is there may be a quorum rule somewhere to settle the issue? Could the “rules” — a floating policy it seems — clarify the issue?
The Republicans ignore their oaths. The evil Republicans will march in fascist lockstep and acquit Trump which will give him more power to break the law and the Constitution. The totally corrupt Republican senate has put party above country and sold out the USA to the criminal organization called the RNC. They really like their Russian money.
Let’s march the Chinese national ping-pong squad through the Senate chamber. Coughing, of course. Oh, and blowing their noses then tidily disposing of the used tissues in the senatorial waste baskets.
As all intelligent people know, and as all honest people admit, Fred Trump was a mobbed-up money-laundering career criminal. As soon as Donald was out of his gold diapers and his platinum pacifier (both of which have returned in recent years…..), HE decided to become a mobbed-up, money-laundering career criminal. (The rapes and treason are separate.) So I’m proud of the “world’s greatest deliberative body” for………er………for………..er………BETRAYING all the good people on the goddam planet????!!!!!
Can’t wait to see what Brian Carroll has to say about the Dershowitz “If i really, really, really want to be re-elected, then I can do whatever I want” defense. Maybe just Monroe facepalming. I mean, what is there to say?
David Brin pointed this out a month or so ago. And he noted that for GOP (as opposed to Trumpist) Senators it’s a big win to stay away from the vote:
☞ They get to say that they did not vote to convict, pacifying the Trumpists in their state.
☞ They get to shout about how it was a Kangaroo Kourt which reached a conclusion without the full body present.
☞And they get rid of the incredibly bad second rate TV “actor” who’s already done everything they ever wanted him to do… but also pissed off the rest of the world and generally wreaked havoc.

I wonder how many runny noses is or coughs will be self-diagnosed as coronavirus.

Sorry, Brian. All Republicans are too cowardly to do ANYTHING against Trump.
They are truly the Party Of Trump now.
The bravest ANY of them can accomplish is to express concern.
You know, deep concern. I mean, world class concern.

Shouldn’t be a problem. Looks like about 50 already fit the description.

The repugnant republicans cower in fear of a tweet by the Rump. They are frozen by terror and cannot move.

“…you need 30 of them to be cowards.”
Or to get caught in traffic? Where’s Chris Christie when you need him?
