Seriously? It really isn’t hard to remember that the rubber band is there. The snapping is a good reminder for something that you regularly do but may tend to forget (especially if you donl’t particularly like doing it, your subconcious mind can be short-sighted). Tying a string around your finger works, too.
This technique is not new, and can be effective. I had a rather elderly neighbor who did the same thing when I was a kid.
