It would be more useful to teach first History of the last two centuries ; for not forget what some “humans” did to other humans . We need it particularly here in Europe , considering how xenophobia and antisemitism is being reborn .
In high school we were taught about the history of ancient civilisations first then we moved on to the renaissance and the reformation before moving on to more modern history of Europe. American history was taught in a separate category for the senior students. This was in South Africa during the apartheid years. Only the white children were given a good education. :(
There are two kinds of history, US history and world history. If, in World History, they stop at RMN, the kid might as well become a Mel Brooks fan and watch History of the World, parts I and II.
Human kind doesn’t change. I learned this lesson when the Soviet Union collapsed. I thought first-world nations had all grown up and the rest of the world was slowly following. But when Yugoslavia was freed of the Soviets and peaceful neighbors started literally killing each other over old ethnic divisions, I realized that mankind can’t change. :-(
Wow! President Nixon? I thought they went as far back as the day before yesterday. At least that’s the impression I get from speaking to some of today’s youth.

They are teaching about Tricky Dick. Sounds like a waste of time.

And people wonder why our children are being deliberately undereducated about history! Makes indoctrinating them ever so much easier.

I’d click Like, but sadly, it’s probably true.

Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. And we are.
