Why do people make it so difficult? Turkey’s the easiest and most fool proof food to cook. Put it in the oven at the degrees listed; stick in a digital thermometer with an alarm; and read about ways to keep a turkey moist when it finishes an hour early and the kids are an hour late. Different ways to baste and cook besides that are just fun stuff to keep it interesting.

Remove guts and do not stuff, put in roaster at 300F, sprinkle with dried onion soup mix, remove about 3 hours later. No basting, no fuss. No crispy skin, but that hardly matters.

Merry Christmas … and good luck! I always did hate trying to do backwards math.

Interesting… Has marks instead of temperature. Cultural difference I guess.

I was going to make roast goose at some point this winter but got discouraged with the instructions, much as above. Instead I did turkey parts (breast, thighs, legs): seared, then braised on a bed of seared onion, celery and seasoning in my slow cooker for several hours. YUM!

Fill the cavity with onions, celery, apples, and oranges. It will keep the turkey fall off the bone moist and well flavored.

Growing up in Los Angeles, I was accustomed to a gas range. Having moved to South Carolina (my birthplace) it’s predominantly electric here. To complicate things, I’m planning to move to Pennsylvania for retirement…where they have both! I remember watching “Are You Being Served?” & they often talked about their ovens using Regulo settings!
