As the world turns on the U.S. with Trump’s so called foreign policies Gary is focused on the pain of letting his fellow Americans go to the Doctor. There is not a reason in the WORLD why the U.S. should not have universal healthcare.
The pain is from those who can’t afford simple medical care for themselves and their families, from those who have had to choose between medical care, food, or housing, and for the U.S. taxpayer who pays exorbitant amounts to support emergency room visits for those who don’t have coverage.
Most everyone agrees that the current way we deliver medical care is severely flawed. Most who don’t obviously have not needed to access it so lack the thrilling experience of our wonderland of restrictions and cost.
I am curious, and would like to know, in what world do men like Mr. Varvel live? Do they not see the sick, the hungry, the hopeless? Is their world so rich and well to do that there are is no suffering for them to see?
Or are they so heartless that they simply choose not to see hungry children, parents and grandparents going without healthcare? People who have little quality of life, and even less to pass on to their own children, do you not see them?
I have “good” insurance. My kid is having a medical procedure. I have to pay $3000 up front in case the insurance company doesn’t cough up. The existing system is broken beyond repair.
I thought Trump already sawed Uncle Sam in half and then sewed the pieces together back-to-front so the world will never know if we’re coming or going.
Can’t blame the GOP for all of the push back. Pelosi and other Dems don’t like it, don’t think it would pass a Dem House, and some don’t even think it would get to a vote.
I never liked the idea of a single payer system, but now I believe it can’t be worse than what we have for everyone. I also have first-hand knowledge of the systems used in Europe to run their systems and they work quite well.
Do you notice that the people who scream socialism all have adequate and probably low cost full coverage health insurance. Especially those members of the government.
Meanwhile lying thief Republicans want to end Medicare so they can pay for doubling the debt they created with their socialist tax breaks for the Republican donor class billionaires program.
Really, Mr Vervel? And how does Trumpy’s “health care plan” stack up? Besides, some who have taken the trouble to actually look at her plan, says the numbers add up. Not that billionaires will be happy with it.
Healthcare has little to do with “care” and everything to do with who foots the bill. An efficiently run government program is an oxymoron. We have single payer medical care in Canada, but it is not the panacea everyone thinks. You can wait months for tests and procedures that can delay diagnosis until it is too late for treatment. I once waited 18 months to have a large cyst removed, while being referred to various specialists, only to wind up having to pay a plastic surgeon who billed it as “cosmetic surgery” because the government plan did not pay him enough. Extra billing is a strict no-no. There are often long waiting lists to get a family doctor. If you don’t like the one you get, tough. Back on the waiting list. Doctors are limited to the number of patients they can serve, and to their total monthly billings. I could go on, but instead just want to say that the problem isn’t with who pays, but is with the obscene cost of health care because of inefficiencies, and things like the cost of liability insurance in this litigious society that we have become. Don’t jump at the lure of “free” healthcare, but research the whole picture because governments are the worst business ventures there are.
I wonder how many cartoons in the 1960’s used this same analogy for “Medicare”. A hackneyed image for a hackneyed talking point, I guess.
Then again, I think they were pushing more the “Communism” angle back then, which is kinda funny when you realize the people most likely to scream “Socializm!!” these days are the same ones that fight tooth and nail for their access to Medicare.
Nicely lied, Varvel. In fact nobody’s plans survive contact with the enemy, and for sure the obscenely rich predator class is the enemy here; but if the plan were followed, the math would work just fine.
The only magic trick is the way the current medical plans (or lack thereof) find a way to make the most profits while providing the least care possible.
I don’t get it. has this magic trick ever failed? has anyone EVER died from this trick?
seriously what is the gocomics healthcare plan!?
What is the GOP/Trump’s plan for healthcare? Can anyone cough up a single detail?
We are all immune to you crying socialism or “iT’s GoNnA cOsT tOo MuCh!” you used the same attacks against Obama’s ACA, and we all know that wasn’t socialist. If you really didn’t want socialism, you and the GOP should have left the ACA alone.
Anyone currently on medicare willing to give it up and go back to only private insurance?
Gotta be careful though if payment involves..“Soak the Rich” Expanding ACA like Pete, Klobuchar and Biden want to do is safer and probably just as effective.

Thank God they’ve finally stopped calling it sociallized medicine. The civilized world calls it universal health care.
