As much as tip likes messing around I find that hard to believe, or is he messing with them?

Drones usually don’t have hand and especially feet.
I’ve heard that basket weaving is a common activity at mental hospitals. It’s supposed to help with calmness and lucidity. I guess the only reason they don’t knit or sew instead is prevention of access to sharp objects.
