As I understand the ruling, a ball swatted away on its downward path is called goaltending, while a ball swatted away on its upward path is OK. The ball here was clearly on a downward path at the moment of contact with Marcy.
Once upon a time it was goal tending if anyone’s hand was above the basket. A dunk was offensive goal tending; no score. You had to throw it in, not put it in.
