Actually, he was a religious scholar, and Bonespurs is just a horse’s patootee who got out of the stable.

If it weren’t Bok, I’d think that both the titles were sarcastic (that’s certainly how I would do it). But in this case, I do believe that Bok is only using sarcasm to label the “scholar” and either actually believes that il Douch is a stable genius, or believes that his paycheck depends on depicting him that way.
