Now that’s what the Flag is SUPPOSED to look like!! Six rows of eight, all in neat columns. None of this 50-state higgledy-piggledy! Just like it was when I was a kid . . . back when England had a King, before continents moved, when STOP signs were yellow, and when we were “one nation, indivisible”.
(As for you veterans, I’m always torn about calling myself one. Nobody shot at me and I shot at nobody, and I don’t compare my service to those who have been in the real heat of battle. But I spent three years trying to decide whether it would be better to die in the first round of nuclear exchanges as the Soviets swarmed over the border. As they say, the world dodged that bullet.)
On a wholly unrelated matter, if Captain Marvel was an adult-sized superhero version of pre-teen/teenager Billy Batson… then what was Captain Marvel Junior’s other identity – an infant? ( Goo-goo, Ma-ma, Da-da… Shazam… )
I remember an old Bugs Bunny cartoon where he ate super carrots battling his antagonists. The end where he turns to his antagonists and says basically Sorry I’ve got to be a real superhero now. And steps off in full Marine Dress. Remember Veterans Day.
Well, Capt. Marvel Jrs. “Other identity” was Freddy Freeman a disabled newsboy. Also, I’m not sure this was a DC comic in 1942, possibly Fawcett? Great art, good choice.

Next to bomber nose art, WWII era comic book covers were an important art form in themselves.

This was from 1942 and the troops are still wearing World War I-era helmets?

“Know what Superman’s got that I ain’t got?”
“Many things come to mind, but just tell me.”
“RED BOOTS.”
So close, yet so far…
Real heroes like those above don’t need capes or red (or yellow) boots.

But let’s be honest, John. Women still can’t resist a man in uniform.

Nicely done, Mr. Lustig.
I come from a family of vets: Daddy, a few uncles, a great-uncle, my stepdad and both his parents.
