“Lovelace” (a parody of Lovejoy) has had his own adventures with a pearl. http://www.skjam.com/2015/03/25/book-review-pearlhanger/

Amy’s tee shirt reads “l ❤️ joy”, visible when she speaks to Lovelace/joy. He’s reading something called “Miniver’s Knobs” by Vaughn—probably not real, but interesting because the 1940’s film “Mrs Miniver” had old British radios as part of MGM’s vast prop selection, with a scene about their tuning knobs. Ok, maybe I’m reading too much into things here…but it’s fun…

Ian McShane has a lot of roles in animated films on his resume’, so I suppose a comic strip role fits in, too.

When last we saw Lovelace, the old ladies who ran a thrift shop across the road from Amy had agitated a mob against Amy, convincing them that Amy was running a brothel out of her shop, which resulted in Amy’s original shop being set on fire. (In a bit of irony, the old ladies felt that Amy’s antique shop represented gentrification of the neighborhood.) But Amy’s assistant Melanie (seen in several SGR storylines, as well as in the alternate timeline of “The Case of the Forked Road”) was in the shop at the time. Lovelace “heroically” went in to save her, but it was all a bit of a ruse. The fire was set by a flunky of Lovelace’s, and he entered the shop not to save Melanie, but to steal a Bunnikins Breakfast Set for then-French President Nicholas Sarkozy (I just relate the stories, I don’t write ‘em). Fortunately, Amy convinced Ryan to save Melanie (they had no idea what had happened to Lovelace), and Amy ended up taking over the old ladies’ shop (the one she was recently gentrified out of). (I’ll spare you the story of Melanie and Ryan for now. These things take a while.)

… On my way to the library, to check out “Minniver’s Knob,” by Vaughn.
