Oh, my native language of English sure is complicated to foreigners.

It isn’t amazing the worst back seat drivers refuse to drive.

On our honeymoon, we solved the problem of me point right and saying left. As he knew I played the piano. he said ‘Just Treble or Bass.’ It worked. I knew I married a smart man.Apparently, lots of people have that problem as well.

First of all only use the word right when specifying the direction. All other answers must use correct to avoid the confusion of do I turn left & answering right. Also a lot of us never did learn left & right. In exercise class I don’t listen to directions, just follow the Instructor. I know I’m not alone because I was checking in for my class & heard that Instructor tell someone, “no your other right”.

I prefer my gps to a map app, but the app can track traffic.

Seems like the point of the cartoon is NOT that she said turn left originally but that he didn’t turn right when she told him. Which is how my spouse treated my directions - he ignored them or argued with them until we were past the turnoff. Once, when we were headed to a wedding in a city we had never driven in before, he disagreed with my first direction (I had written instructions and the map), ignored my second, and finally-fifteen minutes later—he pulled into a gas station and had me to go ask the attendant how to find the address. I came back and told him and he argued with that. Needless to say, we were very late to the wedding and I refused to give directions ever again. This was ‘before computers’. Since then I print out a map with directions and give it to him before we leave home — and, oh yes, he does have GPS but he argues with her as well.

My wife does that a lot. Where she points is normally correct, not what she says. However, as I am driving, I often watch the road, not where she is pointing. And then I get blamed for turning incorrectly.

My favorite is “turn right!” when we are already in the middle of the intersection.

I’m the one who’s directionally challenged. I say right when I mean left fairly often. Occasionally, when I get it right the first time, I’ll say “the real right”. My husband has learned to compensate.

    “Turn left”

    “All right”

    “No, that’s not right”

“But you just said left, right?”

“No, I said turn left, not right”

    “Oh all right!”

“Oh lord! I’ve got nothing left to tell you!”
