If that truck had a stick, you wouldn’t have to worry about Wallace putting it in drive. Of course you would have replaced a burnt out clutch at least three times by now….
I did that for a buddy one time.. but the trailer hitch was not secured.. when the boat touched the trailer it lifted off the ball.. and slid ever so slowly under the boat.. past the boat.. and stopped some 30 feet under water. Fortunately.. we had been scuba diving.. so on gear.. long rope.. amused a lot of bystanders.
Y’know, in my experience, normally the parent is the one who decides to do the driving and instead have the kid go out and do the “bring it a little closer” job. But hey, why not mix it up a bit, eh? ;)
I vividly remember backing the truck up in 2nd grade. My father kept it in neutral and guided the trail hitch up to the boston whaler while I applied the brakes. As an adult I look back at how crazy that was
Am I the only one impressed by the synchronicity of the current arc with the Nor’easter moving in to New England? Or is this a set of reruns that I just don’t remember?
So, somehow missed last Wednesday, Oct 2. Facebook bounced me overthen and I loved the joke about Sterling eating the homework. Reprinting is a nice touch, that us old-folks didn’t have back in the days before the Internet. However, on second reading, my thought wa “WHAT! Sterling can talk?” I immediately started a binge review of all WTB on GoComics and discovered, much to my surprise, that Sterling has consistently and from the very beginning, talked. So, I guess it is true… the memory is the second thing to go when you get old.

Ok Wallace, carefully take your foot off the gas pedal and step out of the truck.
Go sit on that log… where I can see you.
(don’t trust that kid)….

Surely there was one other adult who could’ve helped taking the boat out? Perhaps another fisherman, you help me, I help you?

It’s nice Dad puts some trust in his son but with much caution. I wouldn’t put Sterling in the drivers seat.

My father taught me to do this in west texas. I learned to back a boat and he kept his feet dry! I felt like a hero! Great memories.
