A minor-league ball team nearby actually had “donut” burgers. The buns for the burgers were made of grilled Krispy Kremes”

I’m way ahead of this. Back in the late 80’s, in my elementary cafeteria, I wondered what would happen if I put a cookie inside my hamburger. In spite of the marginal quality of each item of my school lunch, the sweet-savory result was an epiphany for me. I demonstrated this to friends a few times, and they typically watched in awed revulsion as I enjoyed this unlikely pairing. None were ever convinced to try it themselves. Now and then I tell the story to adult friends, and while they are not as incredulous as grade-schoolers, I am almost always faced with heavy skepticism.

Years later, watching the scene in “Ratatouille” when Remy first learned to mix flavors, I could hardly contain myself as I excitedly told my companions, “THAT’S EXACTLY HOW I FELT!”
