Yep. This law will definitely be abused for settling personal scores. On the other hand, it might take ARs out of the hands of some violently unstable people. It’s a tough call.
Red Flag laws are no different from restraining orders but they do need allow for due process. Also if you are still a Redskins fan someone should be getting you help.
Mike aren’t there people today who get bent out of shape with some other person (person b), call SWAT, make up something about person b, and get person b in a world of hurt? How is what you are drawing different from the way things are today when we have no red falg laws?
Lyin’ Mike strikes again. There are more than enough states with red flag laws, including all the Pacific Coast states, New York, half of New England, Florida, and Indiana, that there’d be a track record of such abuse opponents could point to it it actually occurred. There is, however, a well-documented record of conservative whites calling police over supposedly suspicious but objectively innocuous b behavior by African-Americans, which hasn’t shown any indication of bothering Lester at all.
I love the petty little details here. Mr NosyNeighbor has a tiny pink car, while Chudley has the kind of comically oversized pickup I always see getting stuck in parking garages. Neighbor has recycling bins while Chudley has a single metal trash can. Neighbor has a patio umbrella while Chudley has a basketball hoop, which judging from his Trumpy physique, hasn’t seen action since that day he was inspired after seeing Space Jam in the theater.
The problem is that pretty much everything that would trigger a red flag confiscation is already at least a misdemeanor. Mostly threats of violence.
If it isn’t enough to get the person arrested or grabbed on a Baker Act hold it likely won’t survive any kind of court challenge when the flagged person sues the cops for an illegal taking.
Everybody seems to want perfect when they’re complaining about other people’s ideas, and it’ll at least help when proposing their own. Red flag, as proposed by the Chief Twit would likely be something like what Lester’s making fun of. But “everybody looking out for each other” (like we used to have when we all lived in a neighborhood… and actually recognized each other, even knew what our neighbors were like) seems like both a good idea and an impossible dream, starting from where we are now.

Strange, I thought “red flag” laws were trump’s solution along with involuntary commitments in mental hospitals.

Yeah, not allowing people on the no-fly list to buy assault rifles is an egregious abuse.

Also, collecting data on gun violence is exactly the same as total confiscation of all guns (except from criminals, of course).

You could reduce all that to just “Trumper”. But like all toxic waste, finding where to dispose of Trumpers will be a problem for the environment.
