White lies motivated by kindness shouldn’t cause that kind of damage. Cruel and selfish lies, yes.
If they start telling the truth, maybe that will reverse the effect. Especially when the zapping starts.

I try to never lie (I just don’t answer) – That’s why I have very few friends….And never get invited anywhere….Lies feed on themselves and grow exponentially…If you don’t want the truth – Don’t Ask !….
