You’re a Plugger if you send people text messages about your colon: “Good news! Dr sez polyps benign!”

It would be nice if the younger generations would do the same.

I prefer proper grammar to the sloppy, laziness of trash-speak.

And who doesn’t enjoy the learning (for you) of how “easy” it is for your phone to “learn” all over again when you have to switch keyboard apps? Why do they get rid of features that are useful? Crud…

Writing is all about communication and grammar (rules) came about to help ensure that what was written would be understood by the reader(s) the way the writer intended. We ‘invented’ colons, semicolons, commas, etc. to help communicate complex thoughts, ideas, emotions, etc. Two unfortunate aspects of texting are that we no longer seem to care as much if our messages are correctly understood and that we no longer seem to need to communicate complex thoughts. Does that mean we no longer think them as well?

Or if you can’t “message” with both thumbs simultaneously.

I’m a technical writer. I proofread everything, partly because my friends will harass (tease) me if I send them something with a goof in it.

I can see my grammar and English teachers, all of them. They’re looking over my shoulder every time I write something, and I’m proud when they don’t find something to correct. It’s not that “I see dead people,” it is that they are still very much alive in my mind.

Of course, you must correct it, or the grammer police will find you. You know they are watching.

One of favorite commercials is for flea & tick. An outside dog sends a text to his friend inside who has a cat friend & invites them out. They decline because of fleas & ticks. The inside one sends a text that the cat is a “hairy bat”. He looks confused, until the corrected message comes in “scardy cat” with the comment about auto correct!

I cringe when I see the multiple usage, syntax, grammar and spelling mistakes in everything nowadays. But what really drives me crazy (and worries me) is when people use entirely WRONG WORDS! Words mean certain things! Sometimes spell-checks and grammar-checks might be to blame, but I fear that most of the time, the writer really does not know the difference…or maybe does not care!
