It worked for me. Recently my daughter (41) was at an event and they did a name that tune. She nailed all the 60’s and 70’s songs and they made her sit out to give others a chance.

We had a road trip and everybody knew all of the lyrics on the Beatles CDs.

That’s how cultures are preserved. Children must be taught how to do everything. You aren’t born knowing how to eat with a spoon. You aren’t born with a love of (music style x).

I recently found out that my two adult sons along with the their childhood friends have done karaoke to “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by the Proclaimers. When they start responding “my other sock, the remote, my sanity…” to U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, I’ll know that my job will have been completed.

considering that all of our cool, rebellious rock and roll is now played on oldies stations and on commercials, our kids are bound to pick up a melody or two.

You have to start them young. And even then sometimes it backfires into loud, inappropriately timed singing.

My daughter was in 7th or 8th grade when one day she asked me if i had any Janis Joplin or Jimi Hendrix records. i kvelled.

My younger one raided my industrial noise, difficult, & experimental collection.

Music is an easy way of connecting with people and making friends. Giving your kids a distain for current music takes this away from them. They’ll be isolated and lonely, but at least you’ve made them into Police fans.
