I live in Oregon. We don’t have any lightning bugs here. I would like to see some though at sometime in my life. But I hear that they are getting smaller and smaller hatches with modern loss-of-habitat and pollution.
We see probably less than a tenth of the numbers that used to decorate evening yards decades ago. Whatever the reasons for the shrinkage, it is enjoyable but sad.

They are in my front yard now at dusk…..brings back the young days, especially when one lands on your hand or arm……

No matter the color, I do enjoy them. Notice that her mother knew just what she was doing. In fact, Mom is ready to get in her car to join her!

We have plenty in Michigan. Mind you nothing like the smoky mountains
