Dana Milbank on the Washpost:“Impeachment may be inevitable if Trump continues to stiff-arm all inquiries. But Democrats are right not to emulate Trump’s insults, falsehoods and extreme partisanship as they go about their legitimate inquiries.
Maybe such restraint will be proved wrong in 2020, and voters will reward the insult hurlers. But if Americans don’t desire a return to stability, honesty and decency, our democracy is already lost."
And Nancy Pelosi has already noted that Trump is basically self-impeaching. I think he may see it as a way to egg his supporters on to real violence, and he figures he can ride it out and win. Remember he’s not too well connected to reality.
Like most security guards, Pelosi does not have a real weapon right now (in other words, a truly united opposition that would stand together to defend the US against the Divider in Chief). The younger Dems are too busy attacking the older Dems…
As a matter of objective reality, if the Democrats had taken the Senate, impeachment proceedings would already be well under way. As for Pence, yes, he is a pathetic excuse for a carbon-based life form. (As the conservative pundit George Will correctly pointed out a few years ago, any person who would agree to become Donald Trump’s running mate would be unqualified—because he would think Trump was qualified.) There is no doubt whatsoever that Pence is pretty damn stupid, and he is a cowardly dishonest little bigot. But even though he is way way way way WAY below what any intelligent, honest, decent, worthwhile, and patriotic American would want in a president, he IS a huge upgrade over Li’l Donnie. Plus, he’s pretty boring, and would need a running mate with charisma to have the tiniest chance to win in 2020. And whoever would agree to become Pence’s running mate would be unqualified, because…..well, you know!

That describes Nancy Pelosi to a T. What is she waiting for? Two weeks before the 2020 election?
