My grandfather’s cat not only had his own rules for fetch, he decided what was to be fetched. To the degree that the item in question came to be called “Yen’s fetch” in their house.
It took me a minute to realize that was a dog with a frisbee in its mouth. For a second there I couldn’t figure out what kind of creature it was with big, red lips.
I’ve tried all manner. My first dog loved Frisbee. She would also go under water after a rock that was thrown in. Then there was the one who would go get it, bring it back, and refuse to give it to me. My current dog loves to play! All excited! Throw! Run after it! Sniff it. Walk away. Then I have to go get it myself.
Just finished reading my spring copy of “Nature Conservancy” magazine. Last page was a short article on some dogs being trained to help in the search/count of ornamental box turtles. A dog’s “bite” is so gentle that it can carry each turtle to the researcher for counting. The turtle is then returned to approximately the place where the dog “found” it. Absolutely amazing!

Our Jelly understands catching a ball… she just doesn’t get the idea to bring it back unless we get up and head to the front door … LOL!
