That’s what happens when you leave a 10% tip.

Four comments so far and two of them were thinking “tip” and so was I.

Small tip? Lack thereof? Seems to be unanimous this morning.

Bad waiting technique, he should wait until you’re in the middle of a conversation or have your mouth full of food before he asks.

Your 10% tip far exceeded his dedication and enthusiasm to you.. and now wants to make amends.

My son made his living as a waiter for a while. He says it’s like putting on a performance for multiple audiences. Some people like it when you fawn all over them, others want minimal intervention. He says that you have to watch closely and know when to step in. Poor waitstaff are in the back chatting it up with their co-workers.

Chances are if a guy is on his knee in front of a woman and he has a ring in his hand, it is not a good time to ask if they need their drinks refreshed.

I have been more than once interrupted while in the middle of a conversation by a :“pesky” wait person.

He also relates stories of who are the best tippers. For some reasons church groups are notoriously bad. Given how often he’s been “stiffed,” I tend to over-tip. I can afford it (If I could not, I would not be eating out in the first place).. Also I have a “minimum tip;” just because the food is cheap, it doesn’t mean the service is.

hmm I took this the opposite way from the majority of the commentators. I assumed he left a really good tip and the waiter was hoping to get a second tip for going above and beyond his job requirement.

My father was making over $5000 a year in tips back in the early 1940’s. He worked in the major hotel dining rooms in Washington, D.C. He said a good waiter should know if he was needed just by watching the patrons. If they glance around the room, they are needing something.

The waitstaff where I most recently ate was attentive, helpful, and not creepy. I prefer it that way, so I tip near the top.

Boy he comes to the house of the people he waited on the night before? Something not right here.
