why do I have visions of the Bundy’s (Married with Children) German war surplus air conditioner from the early 1940;s that blacked out the entire neighbourhood’s hydro on the hottest day of the year?
I was in high school in 1959, and I suggested to my mum that we get an a/c unit. One of the big department stores had them on sale for only $250. She nearly had a stroke!
Mind you, in 1959 my dad was making $5,000 a year, and it was considered good money, but $250 was a small fortune. My allowance was only $1 a week, so I really had no concept of what things were worth.

How does Agnes know this stuff?
She’s always recognising some old arcane model of something….
lawn mower, guitar, etc.
OK, leaving out that she might have the wrong year…..
or this unit might be burnt out, broken, missing its plug or even it’s insides…. whatever led someone to toss it….
I just Googled it…. and the 1959 Fedder’s Wheel window unit is a real thing…. and it looks like this one!
Not only that, a guy on YouTube paid $150 for what could be the same one, albeit in working order.

I know it’s because Tony drew it that way…. but he’s putting that gift in the mouth of his character.
With her great eye for old stuff, if Agnes ever learns to fix things, and sell on eBay…. that’s something she’d actually be good at.

Puddles of pitied perspiration: sounds like Agnes took the same writing class that Radar did.

A new challenge not to solve. Don’t let it drop on those giant feet.

We are all richer for the wasteful wealthy…. just imagine throwing away a perfectly good 1959 air-conditioner!!!!
