Brought back memories of my grandfather (in my early years 1945-55). As a toddler, I wanted to catch a robin. He gave me a salt shaker and said the only way to catch one was by putting salt on its tail. I nearly ran my short legs off but they always flew away. Now a pair has built their nest on the light fixture by the shed door.
When I got old enough to doubt the existence of the Easter Bunny, Santa(*) Claus, etc. my mom enlisted me into the conspiracy to make sure by younger sibs didn’t lose their fun. Good thing I wasn’t an “only”.
