Sorry for the pedantry, but Sun-day, Moon-day and Saturn-day were named after heavenly bodies. (Saturn was also a Roman god but apparently the Romans first named the planet after the god and then the day after the planet).

In Norse the Saturday was called “laugardag” (modern “lørdag”), literally meaning “bath day”. The vikings may have a bad reputation, but they smelled good!

Well I know what we should call Wednesday. Come on everyone, what would we call Wednesday? You can do it. Hump day.

But who’s gonna want to use their name to replace Monday. To paraphrase Shakespeare, “A turd by any other name still stinks”.

I like the names we use, unique and much better than Firstday, Seconday, … We do have September thru December although we don’t really think of them consciously as Seventhmonth … Tenthmonth.

In portuguese the days of the week except for Saturday and Sunday are named for their numerical order. Monday is Second Tuesday is Third Wednesday is Forth etc.
