An INTERPRETATION of a Dept. of Justice internal memo from 1973, which the writer of the memo says should not be binding, is the basis for the assertion that a sitting president cannot be indicted. No law. No statute. Not the Constitution. In internal memo disavowed by its writer.

(It was regarding Richard Nixon’s Vice-President, Spiro T. Agnew, who the Justice Dept. had evidence of extensive criminal fraud, bribery and extortion going back ten years; the Justice Dept. wondered whether or not a sitting VICE PRESIDENT could be indicted; the Dept. discussed back and forth and finally wrote a memo saying that the vice president COULD be indicted, but the president probably could not. On that basis, the Justice Dept. struck a deal with Agnew that, if he would resign, they would not pursue criminal cases, and he did, was replaced by Gerald Ford and, when Nixon also resigned, Ford became president.)

It is a memo. No law. No statute. Nothing in the Constitution.

But the memo is from the Dept. of Justice, which is ultimate under the president’s authority, so as a matter of practice is likely to continue, though there are rumblings that some in the federal Southern District of New York are considering disregarding the 46-year-old memo and indicting anyway.

The great stone edifice in the ’toon is labelled, “Federal Prison.”

The Attorney General of the State of New York is also investigating for violations that can be prosecuted in STATE COURTS. The State Attorney General is not bound by an internal memo of the Dept. of Justice filled with presidential appointees. And any crimes prosecuted by the State of New York or the District Attorney of Manhattan (New York City) cannot be pardoned by Trump or Pence.

Perhaps that great stone edifice would be better labelled “Attica Penitentiary” (a New York state prison).

Ah, but are they “artistically designed” metal slats that are “beautiful and, at the same time, give our Country the security that our citizens deserve”?

But we should really start the debate as to whether or not diet coke-boarding is ethical.

Since it will be difficult to prove conspiracy between Trump and Russia and it IS possible the conspiracy doesn’t exist this is what I want to see for the end of Trump. There is plenty of evidence of crimes from pre-president days to charge and convict him of.

My understanding is that the actual wall prototypes that were built on the resident’s orders (at a cost of millions) as a proof of concept are now being torn down (at a cost of millions), having served their purpose as security theater.

The moment I saw this cartoon, I knew what to post, but Fat Vulcan beat me to it by 20 minutes! Still, I say It Will Not Happen. Trump supporters are still behind him, not matter what he says, does, or does not do. And voter suppression and purging continue unabated. It will be a long time before all the Trump family & associates crimes are fully brought to light. By then, They will have fled to other countries to enjoy their billions and thumb their noses as the rest of us.

In my humble opinion, we will never see trump incarcerated. They may take some money from him, render him impotent. That’s it. And the impeachment question? Consider the behaviour during cohen’s testimony, do you think those GOP clowns will dump trump? No. The Dems will just heap so much crap onto trump, that a second term is impossible. No impeachment would also cut the legs off of pence, eliminating any chance of him slithering into the oval office. Comments are welcome, of course.
