Friends of my parents had trouble conceiving. When their first child appeared, his room was like a toy shop. When he was three they realised that he had internalised the “norm” that all visiting family members and many friends brought presents for him, and he began to expect these offerings on the altar of his existence. They waited that long to realise it might make him selfish. I shudder to think what he’s like now, in his forties.

And Christmas is coming up. What will the poor girl do?

I didn’t get a toy for having the measles.

Lucy should appreciate things more.

When I had my tonsils out I got a little toy cash register—and all the ice cream I could eat!

I just can’t imagine how she grew up to be so spoiled…

I have the same problem, but none of mine are broken.

Forget the new flesh color they added to CB’s head. In the b/w drawing, he clearly has hair: bangs up front, that middle part in the back of the head, a little ducktail and side edges. CD was never bald, he was a blonde child.

Do kids even get the measles anymore?

Some of my Dads family would drop off great hand-me-down toys from time to time.My cousins were very lucky kids…Before I could get to play with them, my older sisters would throw them away, as they thought it was demeaning to accept them.The ones I hid, would mysteriously disappear.Watching Antique’s Roadshow can be very painful to me still.

Still hurts…
