I lived in Thousand Oaks from 1963 to 1965, from age 13 to 15, about a mile and a half from the shooting. My brother and some friends had a tree-climbing club (early beginnings of a tree-hugger; yes, the name of the town suggest a lot of trees good for climbing). It was a short time, many years ago, but those years transitioning from childhood to the teen years are years that stay with you.
I have made many posts about gun violence and the role of the corporate thugs and the politicians they have bought and paid for who are willing willing to sacrifice the murdered bodies of school children on the blood-stained altar of corporate profits for the gun manufacturers who support them.
So, how is the lying, NRA owned “administration” going to try to spin THIS mass murder, since the shooter was NOT a “Brown” guy, or “An Evil Muslim”, or “An Illegal Immigrant Criminal”, but an “All-American” white Ex-Marine??
From what I have read, the shooter had a high capacity magazine that is actually illegal in CA, but the law isn’t being enforced because of a lawsuit by the NRA.
“Two years ago, California voters and state lawmakers made it illegal even to possess a firearm magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds.
The California Rifle & Pistol Assn. successfully challenged that law, persuading a federal judge in San Diego in 2017 to prevent it from taking effect.
The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the preliminary injunction in a 2-1 vote in July."
Brendan Kelly, one of the survivors of the Las Vegas shooting also survived the Thousand Oaks shooting. Because of his previous experience, he didn’t panic and pushed others to the floor to take cover.
This shows the American government is really committed to solving the mental heath issues that shootings like this demonstrate. Unfortunately, it appears to be solving the problem one gunman at a time.
This shooting don’t count much because it happened in that sinful state.. and, evidently in a country and western themed bar.. Nothing of concern here folk… move on.
I think we should end the TSA checkpoints at airports. It infringes on my Constitutional rights protected by the 4th Amendment, against searches without a warrant. If the 2nd Amendment is sacrosanct why not the 4th? “Real Americans” demand their 4th Amendment rights! If planes get hijacked and crash into buildings it’s just the price we pay for FREEDOM! Protect the 4th!
You want to end gun violence? Fix the social problems. Give people something to hope for and work towards, rather than just hold the unobtainable carrot out in front.
It is NOT sane or nuts, it is EASY ACCESS TO GUNS and ACCESSORIES! NOT “hunting rifles and shotguns”, but military copy PEOPLE KILLING WEAPONS! Don’t ban all guns, but it’s past time to limit and crack down on killing capacity, magazine size, “bump stocks”, and those dealing in illegal, semi-legal, sales, and even those who “technically” follow the law, but stretch it pretty badly out of shape. There is NO reason for a centerfire rifle to hold more than the legal for hunting FIVE rounds. Handguns are more difficult, but not more than 12 rounds in a magazine. Possession is the crime. BTW, automatics are LEGAL if you pay the tax and do the licensing, which ain’ t easy to get.

Welcome to the new normal, thanks to a spineless Republican party and the world’s largest terrorist organization the NRA.

But sometimes it hits closer to home than others.

For starters, let’s stop calling them shooters and start calling them what they are: LOSERS!

I hear that the next day all those beribboned oaks burned down, and took the town with them!
