The NRA supporting sport shooting and hunters, I get that. What I don’t get is their stand against reasonable registration of weapons, a license that can be revoked for mental health or criminal behavior reasons, developing smart technology that can be retrofitted (our cell phones have it now), and controlling ammo sales. I can’t drive without a license and my car must be registered and insured, yet it was designed to transport people, not to be a lethal weapon. There’s got to be some common ground somewhere…
The NRA became a hate group, for profit, when it abandoned sport hunting and started pushing for deadlier anti-human firearms with La Pierre and crowd.
After every one of these sickening incidents we hear the call for improved regulation of gun possession. The NRA responds that this would infringe on the rights of “responsible gun owners” so that nothing can be done ~ except to arm our communities even further. ~ Okay, so if the concern is the potential to impact the rights of “responsible gun owners” can the NRA (or their bought-and-paid-for Legislators) put forth exactly what constitutes – and ensures – that a person in possession of one or more weapons is a responsible gun owner? You have to renew a driver’s license and have your car registered / inspected on a regular basis. ~ How about a yearly / bi-yearly evaluation of their weapons by a gun-smith and a requirement that they have completed a gun-safety course with a certified instructor? That seems minimally intrusive and could be sponsored by the NRA for their members to ensure lower costs for this service. ~ Wouldn’t meeting that minimal requirement be an indication that someone wanting to possess a lethal weapon is “responsible” enough to own it? ~ If not, then please tell me how we can determine who is or isn’t responsible enough to possess a lethal weapon…. and not after they have already shot up a house of worship, school, restaurant or store to vent their anger at “the other” in our society. ~
