Apparently, not is SoCal. Smoky, maybe, but we could use some cold and wet about now.
We call them wooly caterpillars here in New England. They come out in late fall & are rumored to be the harbinger of a cold winter by how thick their coat is.
…and they have been pretty wooly here!

The last time I asked my neighbor lady if she wanted to see a wooly worm, I was arrested.
Wooly Bear caterpillar
Saw a woolly bear on the 8th of November this year with more black than orange. Than on the 9th it snowed and went to 21 deg.
