    I’ve been wondering for a while… Is her name pronounced “Caro – LIE – na” or “Caro – LEE – na”?

    Originally, Hulk was supposed to be grey. But when the first issue was printed, the printers messed up and in some of the printings Hulk was green. Kirby and Lee liked it, so they made it permanent.

    The later ‘Grey Hulk’, AKA ‘The Fixer’, had normal intelligence, and dressed up well (if a bit Mob).

    @alien011:

    “When the first issue was printed, the printers messed up and in some of the printings Hulk was green.”

    As a retired printing pressman, I had to go and research this statement. The Wikipedia article actually states that it was the colorist at Marvel who had difficulties keeping the grey consistent throughout the initial appearance.

    Back in 1962, when the book came out, printers of comic books used letterpress engravings to print 4 colors of ink on the paper – cyan, magenta, yellow and black. These colors overlapped to give other colors such as green, red, purple, etc. It was up to the publisher to specify what the colors should be. The printer had very little control once the engravings were on the press. Color correcting had to be done before the engravings were made.

    Apparently, grey was extremely difficult. I remember that Batman’s jersey was absolutely grey on the covers of DC’s books, but the inside pages showed that same jersey as a sort of grey-purple. I’m not sure, but I suspect that they used better technology for the color separations used on the cover, and went with cheaper methods for the inside pages.

    The problem is that they tried to fix things that didn’t need it and unbalanced something else. In this case the word breaks is busted.

    Another missing strip for today. I hope it shows up later. There were two days last week when there were no strips. Are the creators cutting back?
