Could it possibly be that our 2 opposing party system doesn’t actually have the incentives to attract the best and brightest and most stable people to do egoless public service?
Super, have you any examples of the system with those incentives? To be honest, I don’t know any nation that manages to get the best, brightest and most stable people into its government. Parliamentary systems have multiple parties, but, looking at current examples of that, I don’t see intellect and stability present to any greater degree than we have here in the US. But it also seems to me that those nations with a more responsive government are those which have a higher degree of general education in their people, so maybe we should focus on getting a better overall level of education for all citizens and not worry about parties. (I am assuming that you would agree that some form of democracy is a first requirement for such a government.)
When it comes to attracting qualified candidates. We need to look at how we, the readers of political cartoons treat those who are elected. Ridiculing past representatives more on the basis of who they were and less of what errors they made brought in the scoundrels (a fitting, if outdated word) we have now. Greed, corruption, and in the case of the current occupant of the white house, psychopathy runs our government today. Choosing a life of public service today is only for those who don’t care about anyone but themselves because of the butt-kissing to get funds from rich donors and facing exceptionally harsh criticism for everything done since kindergarten. None of us would like it, so why do it to them? Really good people seldom come from those who never made mistakes, but from people who made mistakes, learned and grew from them.
How about in the future, we refrain from denigrating new representatives and look at their actions instead until they prove themselves unworthy of their positions of leadership.
Morons voting for morons and we all get morons running the show. People who don’t vote get the government they allow to happen. Change channels from Fox fake news to real news and learn what is going on before voting. Vote for democrats Nov 6.

Chip makes his contribution to political discourse that is so disgusting that, if successful, will keep people away from voting.
Your basic Republican/Trump Disciple tactic.
