Oh don’t be silly. They hate our politics. But they clearly want our tourist money, foreign aid money, disaster assistance money, grant money for education, charitable money, development aid money, environmental aid money and of course just plane loads of cash. They will also take credit cards.
It’s not that exaggerated. When I go looking to book international flights, I find that Expedia’s lowest prices often involve a layover in Istanbul. The State Department has a level 3 (“reconsider travel”) warning for Turkey right now. Which is probably why those flights are so cheap.
That list of countries has increased signficantly since the 2016 election. As I heard Iranians, and many others say from different countries, it isn’t Americans they hate, it’s our government, that keeps attacking them. Reagan, Bush, Bush, and now Trump have a long record made worse.
Other tax-free countries such as Belize are continually calling on television and otherwise. After arriving some people are not heard from again or possibly found murdered.
