A comic book writer I know once tried to deal with an overflow of junk mail by getting a rubber stamp that read “DECEASED, Return to sender.” He’d stamp it on unwanted mail and drop it in the box outside his workplace. Somehow, perhaps by accidentally returning a non-junk item that came from an aquaintance, word got out that he had died. Obituaries and tributes began to appear in the comics industry press. He finally had to write and distribute a letter explaining the facts. But even years later, at some convention or other, he’d have to address it all over with a fan startled to see him above ground.
