Today is the two-year anniversary of Two Party Opera!
My career has a comic artist has historically been spotty, so I am amazed that I’ve been able to keep this thing going consistently for this long. Through the good and bad, I’ve been very proud of the work I’ve done here for these past two years and I thank all of you who have been reading along and indulging me in my weird passion for American history and the office of the presidency.
If it walks like a Bork……Congrats, Brian. You are worth the intellectual investment. I try not to miss the strip. Presidents were always a passion, and you’ve given me a reason to elaborate without folks rolling their eyes!
They’re terrific! Keep up the good work. (And work it is: despite appearances, the jokes don’t write themselves.) Oh, and you’re a marvelous caricaturist. (Jeff Danziger is a marvelous artist and very witty, but he can’t draw a likeness for sour owl jowls.)
I was on the road for much of yesterday and today. I took the opportunity to listen to the confirmation hearing.
Several of the Dem Senators did actually ask some serious questions about some of Kavanaugh’s decisions and dissents. Mostly dissents. They were looking for the smoking gun, usually attempting to prove that he acted outside of precedent. Sadly for them, he knew his own writings far better than they did and essentially destroyed every foray.
You could tell the Senator knew he/she had been outwitted when Kavanaugh would pull up the precedent decision he had used and began explaining the logic, and the Sen would stop him and hurriedly move on to some other question, case or topic.
I seriously doubt that this nominee can be Borked. It was very clear that he was the smartest person in the room, by a substantial margin.
Years before, there had been a minor comic book villain who’d fought the team of Batman and the Flash. His tagline was “You can’t hurt Bork…but Bork can hurt you!” As you can imagine, his image got a lot of use among politically inclined comics fans of the day.

After listening to yesterday’s podcast of The Daily, I think I’m persuaded the Federalist Society is now our greatest threat to national security.

This was a hell of a news day to have had the next two comics planned out in advance…
