John McCain — I didn’t vote for him. I vigorously opposed and campaigned against his policies (especially on foreign policy and military interventions) and I would oppose any political campaign if he were still with us. I will not suddenly pretend to be a supporter of his politics. But the man did what he believed to be right, had class and dignity, and I respect his integrity, decency and character and willingness to try his flawed, imperfect best to put country and values ahead of party. He refused to campaign dirty, and at the lowest point of his life, under horrible torture, had the chance to escape it and refused to be freed until those who had been detained ahead of him were first released in the order of their capture.
Jeff Sessions is an ultra CONservative racist and a key element in putting babies in cages and “tender years” jails. Stephen Miller, top aide to Comrade TRUMPovich and Josef Goebbels reincarnated, came to Trump by way of Sessions, for whom he had been chief of staff. Jeff Sessions, the first senator to endorse Trump, is a key villain in this administration. His ONLY redeeming quality, and what gets Trump so angry at him, is that his loyalty is to the country (as white and elite as he believes that country should be) and not to Trump personally. But gotta admit, the fact that Trump could make someone as unpalatable as Sessions start to look not so bad says more about Trump than about Sessions.
George Will is a long-time ultra conservative opinion writer. I don’t think I’ve ever agreed with his opinions on almost anything and he is aggravating to read. I still don’t agree with his views on politics and public policy, but I respect that, unlike so many other gullible CONservatives, he has not been taken in by the charlatan CON man usurping a White House he did not win, and occupies only by cheating.
This really tells us where we are today. A right wing senator is the face of the resistance. Meanwhile the Reds are completing their coup on the Supreme Court

I don’t want the “face of resistance” to be a Marxist revolutionist. A Social Democrat (but one who means it) would be good. It’s not “democratic socialism”: socialism never works for long. It is democracy (and yes, capitalism) but tempered with a social continence. The understanding that no nation can prosper if the common people don’t prosper. By the way, DD Wiz about summed up my thoughts about the unlikely people who have been standing in the breach (so to say). I might quibble about some of the details, but not much.
The fundamental rule of analysis is always to ask “Compared to what?”. Compared to Barack Obama, McCain was clearly 2nd best. Compared to Obama’s successor, McCain is off the charts.
Is there an election where you live? McCain isn’t on the ballot, and I hope you wouldn’t vote for him if he were. So who is?
You’d better be working hard to get out the vote for candidates who will vote for thevaluesyou hold dear. Otherwise, those values could soon join John McCain among the “dear departed”.
I guess these days, we have to take what we can get. If John McCain and Jeff Flake are the “voices of reason”, better to at least have them than nothing.
